Grand Tour, Day 19: Amsterdam Friday

For breakfast, I had bread with Nutella. It was awesome! That was the first time that I had tried Nutella in a long time. The first time I tried it, I didn't like it, but after I tried it again, it was one of my favorite foods of the whole trip.

Then we took the train to Amsterdam. Once we got there we took the train to the Rijks Museum. We got multi-media again. We stayed for 5 hours!

In this museum my favorite paintings were "The Milkmaid" by Vermeer and "The Night watch" by Rembrandt. "The Night watch" is in the center of a big room. On both sides of it, there are other paintings by Rembrandt. In the "The Night watch" half of the painting is light and half of the painting is dark. You see one man wearing a gold shirt. I think it is impressive how Rembrandt can make the man seem to be glowing and have light reflecting all over and yet still have some dark spaces in between.

My mom said that underneath "The Night watch" there is a place where if something goes wrong they can lower the painting into it.
"The Milkmaid"is in a tiny no door room with other Vermeer paintings in it. If you look at it for a second you see she is in a clean room. But, if you keep looking you can see that there are holes in the wall and that the bread in the bread basket is messed up.

It is impressive how Vermeer can make the milk look good enough to drink.

Another memorable painting was one that looked like Melissa. I was very surprised, but my mom was even more surprised. When she saw it, she laughed so hard she cried!

Then we took a picture on big letters that said "iamsterdam." After that, we were going to walk by the canal, but Nina got lost! Luckily, we found her. Then we actually walked by the canal. In Amsterdam, the streets were cobblestone. That was different from usual. We walked for an hour and made it to the train. We got on and went to The Hague.
