Louisiana Swamp Tour!

Emilio:"We woke up and had breakfast. We are going to the pool. It was fun. We are leaving and going to an old fort. We made it to Louisiana. We stopped at a rest place. I also got free cookies and lemonade.
"We made it to the fort. It was cool. Now we are going to a swamp tour.

"We made it to the swamp tour. It was fun. We got to see a great blue heron, alligators, bald eagle, ibis, egris, and an owl. Now we are going to the hotel. Our hotel room is awesome. We can't go to the pool today because it is outside and it is to cold."

My Summer Vacation by Emilio

Emilio: "Captain’s Log Star Track Date 5-21-15
"We helped take stuff inside ECU. We came back home to get towels. Pretty dull so far. We just stopped for gas. We made it out of Ada. So long Roff. Never mind we’re going back home. Still at home. We just saw a horse. Made it out of Ada again. So long Roff. On our way to Davis. Went under our first bridge. I don’t know why I wrote that. Made it to our first tollbooth. I saw the first star. Man in the moon is smiling. We’re in Davis. We’re finding a restaurant. Daddy is rubbing his beard. We found a restaurant. Mexican food!
"We just crossed the red river. We made it to Fort Worth. We made it to Granddaddy and Grandmother’s house."

*This Captain's log has been transcribed by Emilio from the notebook he updated throughout our summer trip. Keeping a journal during the trip was entirely his idea. Granddaddy suggested that he call it the Captain's Log. I suggested that he transcribe it here.

Clever turnaround.

One of the greats.

Tricky footwork and a thoughtful pass.

Spring Soccer Begins

With the exception of Easter weekend, Emilio will be spending his spring Saturdays through May 16th soccering with many of the same teammates he played with in the Fall. We will have a new/old coach: Brian Bratton, who coached Emilio's team when Emi was in 2nd grade. Our uniforms have not come in yet, but Coach Brian provided everyone with matching maroon shirts. We got the black shorts memo, but whiffed on the black socks. Emi's legs are bright yellow.

Emi races in for the loose ball, commands it down field, and--this is a developing element of his game--keeps his head up looking for someone to pass it to. He finds a teammate and sends over a crosser. Though it doesn't connect, the idea is a good one.

McAlester is going to be a tough matchup for us. Though this shot goes wide, I can't blame Emi for trying a couple of launcharoos.

Impressive, relentless determination.

Launcharoo two.

Great crosser with the left.

Another nice pass.

Great second half hustle play down the sideline followed by a brilliant crosser.

Nifty footwork and a quick shot on goal.

Soooooo close.

More determination and elusiveness followed by another good idea lead pass.
I love the way he gets by this guy, and the clever footwork on the pass to Carson is one of the highlights of the day.
In sum, though Emi's shots didn't find nets today, Emi played his position well and resisted the temptation to play endline to endline (at times, he has shown a tendency to play everyone's position--which has left him with little energy to attack). I wish I could be there for his next game, on April 11th, though my greatest hope is that it will get rained out and rescheduled for a day when I can be there!
