Scouting the Hood

In response to inquiries made by readers of this blog, I have included here a few images of Emilio's neighborhood-to-be, which is officially known as "South Andersonville."

As I was assembling the photos for this post,Emilio taught me how to play "Hide and Seek the Shoe." The game begins with Emilio wearing both shoes and me pushing the stroller. After we have completely circled the block, Emilio reveals that he has dropped one of his shoes in a mysterious spot somewhere along the circuit. My task, then, is to re-circle the block and find it.

After we finished playing "Hide and Seek the Shoe," we played "Hide and Seek the Sock." The rules are similar.

If you would like to play the on-line version of "Hide and Seek the Shoe," just check out the photos on this post, which were taken during our turn around the block. The answer to the puzzle will be revealed at the bottom of the post.

The homes in the photo at right are across the street from our house-to-be.

That's another view of our home-to-be below on the left.

The tall, white-trunk trees in the photo at left are on the empty lot beside the last house on the south side of the block.
Anybody out there think they can identify what kind of trees they are? (I don't know the answer.)

That's a view of our block from its Western end at right.

That's a view of the alley behind our house-to-be below at left. The blooms on the bushes have a wonderful aroma.
And here's the Answer to the Shoe Search:

The tiny dark blue speck in the middle of the sidewalk in the top photo on the right is Emilio's shoe, which he dropped off at a spot that was mathematically furthest from the starting point of our stroll.

Mother's Day, Aught Seven

Last Tuesday, May 8th, we took these photos of Emilio in anticipation of last Sunday's Mother's Day celebration. The photos we get from the digital camera that we use for the videos on this blog don't have a high enough pixel rate to produce quality prints, but these do.

I framed a 5" x 7" shot of the smiling photo at left for Mari, which we gave to her along with a card, candles (ripe papaya and black currant scents) and some lotion bought at the Kopi Cafe on Clark Street.

On the big day, the three of us enjoyed a long walk through the neighborhood and menus chosen by Emilio's mom, including an Einstein bagel breakfast on the sunny patio behind the restaurant, and home-cooked burgers with avocado slices for dinner with Dove bar desserts.

Between meals, we did some apartment hunting and took naps.

We also watched some TV together for the first time in a long while: Saturday Night Live, hosted by Molly Shannon.

Who is "Ga-ga"?

I know "Ma-Ma" and I know "Da-Da." But "Ga-Ga"? I don't know. Emilio finds this to be terribly funny.

More of the same.

Arlene's Arc

On Saturday Emilio received a gift from Aunt Arlene which was mailed to him by Grandmother and Granddaddy: it's a Noah's Arc and all the animals sound off when you push them with your figner. Emilio loves it.

Hola, che!

On Wednesday the 2nd, we got a call from Mari's cousin Juan Manuel and her aunt Teresa who had been visiting New York City (Teresa made a presentation at an convention for orthodontics) and they told us that they had found a cheap flight to Chicago and were considering making a quick trip to the Big Windy before returning to Buenos Aires on Sunday. We said "c'mon," Mari walked around the Loop with them after she got out of school on Friday and then brought them back to the house where they met Emilio. While Teresa made a call back to Good Airs, Emilio covered the body parts with Juan Manuel, and then gave him a little taste of Chicago-style dancin'. Now you are there:
