The Trainwreck Song

Sometimes when Emilio's fans really want to hear a song, they begin to sing it themselves in order to prime the pump. Very often, we, the fans, get the words wrong until a reluctant Emilio finally feels compelled to sing the lyrics as they were originally written. On this particular occasion, however, Emilio gave his fans a taste of their own medicine. For the record: Thomas is the cheeky one; James is vain but lots of fun; Percy pulls the mail on time; Gordon thunders down the line; Emily really knows her stuff; Henry toots and huffs and puffs; Edward likes to help and share; and Toby, well, let's say he's square.

Emigination in action

One of the great joys of living with Emi is getting to overhear him imagine his way through an extemporaneous narrative. I have added a transcript for the following two-minute excerpt from one such adventure (see below).

Act One: Without the Apes


Hmmm, we can’t wake them up! Can you guys wake them up? Mommy said, No, we can’t wake them up. ‘Cause we know him, said those trees. We live in Emi’s house. Oh! Emi’s watching us? . . .Oh! Who put it there? No . . . Daddy. Oh! Daddy. Who’s Daddy? Mommy. Oh! . . . Is Mommy put it? Daddy did. There’s Daddy. Did you put that? No, Mommy did. Where is she? She’s upstairs, sleeping. Who’s she putting to sleep? She just put somebody to sleep. Without the apes. Nina--Oh! And Pablo--Oh! He said.

Act Two: Not a Good Thing to Do

. . . you can, you can go to, you can be very quiet.. . . open, Pablo’s door open . . . Pablo always open Pablo’s door, but you can’t do it because Emi’s sleeping in the couch with Pablo . . . wake him up. So . . . Daddy! What? Go away from this house, go with Pooh Bear. He’s alone. And he’s, he’s so sad. Oh! Silly Rabbit. I don’t want to go there. I want to stay here, with you. No, Pablo’s sleeping and you waked him up. I did! Yes! It’s not a good thing to do. . . . It wasn’t!

Getting Better

After a week of high temperatures and low energy levels that kept him home from school, Emi enjoyed the first family outing we've had in more than a week. He especially liked the fact that we were letting Nina and Pablo "run wild."

The photo at left illustrates the great delight Emilio feels when one of his siblings "goes off the reservation" or engages in what he perceives to be some sort of illicit behavior. The farther Pablo got away from us, the more excited Emilio got. Then he chased after him.
