There is more confidence here than a first grader's confidence, more self-awareness, more composure, more ideas, more plans, and more invisible behind the limits of line and composition. Here is the master of his own fate, the owner of a destiny he may know but isn't telling. And I can't help wondering if that is a little string he has stretched out behind him, hoping we will not notice before he reveals its surprising purpose.
