Silver Surfer Star Wars

The Silver Surfers' last game of the year, scheduled for Saturday May 4th--a make-up game for an earlier cancellation, was itself canceled because the other team (Navy) couldn't field a team.  We still held one more practice, though, and this one was special as Coach Dwight's Under-10 team, the Dragons, combined with the Silver Surfers (the under-8s) to challenge the parents of the players on both squads--including Mari and me.  Mari played defense; I played forward (I think we just left Pablo and Nina to fend for themselves in the wild), but I'm not sure.   Though Mari and I were both hoping we'd play on the small field the U-8s play on, we ended up playing on a the big field.  After the game, Mari reported to me that within minutes of the game's start other parents commented to her that it was clear that Emilio didn't get his soccer skills from me.  True that.

At the conclusion of the game, some enjoyed hot dogs and other snacks (we brought strawberries) and Coach Dwight distributed trophies and medals to all the players, which he garnished with a few words of individual recognition.  About Emilio, he said "he has ball skills of a kid twice his age."

Afterwards, Pabi observed, accurately, that Emi's trophy looks like C3P0.  On the pitch, though, Emi's less C3PO than he is Anakin.  Or Luke.  At this point, I'm more R2D2, I guess.

Steve is too bashful! he actually scored two goals. One was even with his head!
If you know steve, you know he is a fast learner! (and not a show off)
