In the first game of the season five, our opponents are the Red Devils--the same Red Devils who used an aggressive "CattyWampus" coverage defense on Emilio to engineer the only tie the Blue Dragons experienced in the Fall. Emilio missed the Blue Dragons's only practice because he was attending dress rehearsal for "Beauty and the Beast."
The returning Blue Dragons, in addition to Emilio, are: Lane, Tyler Bratton, Emily, and Tristan. Two new Dragons include: Tyler and "Kiki" (Mackenzie).
That's the first goal of the season. Lane gets the score; Emi gets the assist. Blue Dragons 1, Red Devils 0.
That's it: the first. The patented pick-and-score. Blue Dragons 2, Red Devils 0.
Impressive intercept by Emilio followed by a feed to two Blue Dragons in front of the net. Unfortunately, we can't finish. And the score at the end of one is 2-0.
In the second quarter, Emi's new teammates help extend the lead, and at the half the score is 5-0. Emi starts the third quarter . . .
And manages a nifty nick with the left and a boot with the right--his second and the Blue Dragons's sixth. Dad, Michelle, Pablo, Nina, Mom, Mari, Grandmom and John Dan look on.
Four minutes later, still in the third, Emi loses the handle on our end of the field, recovers, dribbles against the grain, and just as he crosses midfield and the defense moves in, sees that the goalie has left the net to challenge his drive, and lets loose one of his longest shots. It's true. That's #3 for Emi and #7 for the Blues.
Coach Bratton sits Emi and the Tylers in the fourth. Finals score: Blues 10, Devils 0.
Michelle took the photos below. I've asked her to come back every week.
